Family Worship

Jesus Was Raised:

The focus of this family time is to use five easy steps to teach your family that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but He didn’t stay dead. God was pleased with Jesus’ sacrifice and raised Jesus from the dead on the third day to reign as King over all creation. Jesus provides salvation from sin and the promise of eternal life.

MEMORY VERSE:

“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Revelation 5:13

Learn the Memory Verse together and say it throughout the week to help your family remember and apply what they have learned.

STEP 1. GATHER!

Use this time to begin Family Worship Night and have fun!

For Fun

Search online for the recipe to make Resurrection Rolls and make the treat as a family. Discuss why the empty tomb is good news for us and how the resurrection of Jesus proves that Jesus is the Son of God and King over all creation.

To Serve

To Serve Use The Gospel: God’s Plan for Me to create a witnessing tool your family can use to share Jesus with others. Use an index card to draw the icons and write the Scripture references for each part of the plan. Encourage kids to carry the card in their backpack and ask God for opportunities to share the gospel with friends.

REVIEW THE BIBLE STORY

What is something amazing that you’ve experienced this week? Maybe you’ve watched a caterpillar leave its chrysalis as a butterfly. Or maybe you watched a sports game where the underdog won in the final seconds of the match. Or maybe you got a good grade on a math test that you were nervous about. Amazing things happen every single day, but there is nothing more amazing than the miracle of the resurrection of Jesus!

On the third day after Jesus’ death and burial, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb. An angel of the Lord had rolled back the stone. The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” (Matt. 28:5-6) At this announcement, the women ran to share the good news with the other disciples.

The death and resurrection of Jesus is at the center of the gospel. We deserve to die because of our sin, but Jesus died in our place. Because Jesus is alive, we do not need to fear anything. Those who trust in Jesus have forgiveness and eternal life, and we can joyfully obey Him. Now that’s amazing!

Mission Moment

Look up a picture of Luther Rice and show your family

Tell kids that Luther Rice helped organize missionary societies. Explain that by 1815, he helped start 25 societies of women who contributed to foreign and home missions as well as many local charities. Tell kids that the societies eventually joined together in the South to create the Woman’s Missionary Union.

SAY An important part of Luther Rice’s job was to raise money for missions. This became his life’s work. In 1814, the money contributed to foreign missions by Baptists was just a little over $1,200. In 1816, the amount given was over $12,000.

Luther Rice also saw a need for home mission work as he traveled across the United States. John Peck was the first Baptist home missionary in the West. He met Luther Rice in 1815. Later, Luther met Humphrey Posey. Humphrey wanted to tell Cherokee Indians about Jesus. Luther encouraged Humphrey to begin a ministry with the Cherokee tribe, and Humphrey began a mission station in Valley Towns, North Carolina. Around 1820, a group of Baptist leaders told Luther that printed material about the gospel was needed. In 1824, Luther and others helped form a group that printed books and other materials that were used to share with others the good news about Jesus. Close in prayer, thanking God for the work of Luther Rice to help people know and understand how they could work together to support missions.

    STEP 4. Pray!

Pray: Thank You, Jesus, for dying on the cross for our sins and for resurrecting on the third day. We celebrate and worship because You are alive! You have defeated sin and Your resurrection guarantees eternal life for all who believe in You. Amen.
